HIV in Animals

Can animals, such as dogs and cats  get HIV/AIDS?

Response from Parkhurst Justin (D.Phil)

Dear Steve: Animals can not get HIV because HIV is a human virus (that is what the letters stand for – Human Immunodeficiency Virus). There are some similar viruses in some animals, but not all animals will have such viruses.

Then ratio of uninfected people/infected could be very high if infection was a must like 10\100
