Q. I have been hearing of blood transmission. How can I know that the blood they are giving me is negative? By Joyce D

Efforts are being made to ensure that all blood used for transfusion is screened for HIV infection, In the major hospitals all blood is screened for HIV infection. However there are few instances where blood used in transfusion may have been donated by some one in the window period. For this there could be a danger of infection. The chances of this are very low.

Q. In details, how does the CD4 count determine the treatment a HIV/AIDS patient is supposed to undertake? By: Joan

When the CD4 is below 250 the patient has to start treatment, when the CD4  lowers the viral load goes higher showing that the patient’s body immunity is low and can’t fight against infections, it is not only CD4 that  determine the patients treatment but also clinical staging.
